Is yoga right for me? I hear this question quite a bit. It is a question that leads to more questions.
Iyengar yoga, the style we teach at Westshore Yoga has such range that it is suitable for any age and ability level. Because of this range it is important to find the right class for you.
At Westshore yoga the majority of students in the classes range from 35-80 years young. They are people who have generally been active in their life and have an explorer in their nature. Most of us have experienced some physical challenges with shoulders, knees, hips, back, etc. and yet want to keep growing and living life to the fullest. In consideration of this, a full range of postures are done with care, making adjustments and using props as needed to enjoy the pose more fully. We are a playful group as we explore our body and mind through the work.
So, if you are wondering if the classes at Westshore yoga will be right for you, perhaps the questions to ask yourself would be :
Would I feel comfortable in a group of people between the ages of 35-80?
Am I willing to acknowledge where I am and to challenge myself to grow?
Am I patient(or willing to learn to be!) and willing to work carefully, enjoying every moment and movement?
Is there an explorer is me that has fun learning new things, simple things, things about myself, my body, the way I think?
If you have answered “yes” you may have found the place for you to begin or continue your journey.
If you still have more questions, just ask, I am always happy to help.
Namaste,
Marilyn
