The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali offer us signposts to guide our way. The sutra below has been one of my favourites for many years and I refer to it often. I offer it here, simply translated with no commentary. I leave it to you, to sit with, reflect on it, how it may apply to you.

Patanjali”s Yoga Sutra I.33:
maitri karuna mudito peksanam sukha duhkha punyapunya visayanam bhavanatas citta prasadanam

This four-fold attitude to life’s vicissitudes offers us some Keys to Peace.

“By cultivating attitudes of:

1) friendliness toward the happy,

2) compassion for the unhappy,

3) delight in the virtuous,

4) disregard toward the wicked,

the consciousness becomes serene and benevolent.”
